I am a man of great intelligence and ambition; I served on Washington's Revolutionary War staff from 1777-1781. After the war a co-wrote with John Jay and James Madison the famous 'Federalist' essays. I believed in a strong central government and a strong national bank, convictions that put me famously at odds with Thomas Jefferson. In 1789 President Washington was so appealed of me that he made me the country’s first secretary of the treasury.
