1782-1783: Elected to the Continental Congress

1783: Began a non-military career and was admitted into the Bar after three months of intensive study.

1787: Elected to the Continental Congress and, in 1789, became the first Secretary of the Treasury and proposed:

• Establishment of a national bank
• Funding of the national debt
• Assumption of the states' war debts.

He believed that a minimal national debt was a good thing.

His portrait is on the $10 bill.

b.What role did he play in the building of our nation?

I am a man of great intelligence and ambition; I served on Washington's Revolutionary War staff from 1777-1781. After the war a co-wrote with John Jay and James Madison the famous 'Federalist' essays. I believed in a strong central government and a strong national bank, convictions that put me famously at odds with Thomas Jefferson. In 1789 President Washington was so appealed of me that he made me the country’s first secretary of the treasury.

I was born into riches being that my mom is Rachel Fawcett Lavien and James Hamilton who both owned the West Indian trading company. I come from the West Indian Island of Nevis. I am a busy politician I was once a president and once a mayor of New York. Unfortunately my personal enemy grew to jealous of my politician success so he challenged me to a duel and I was killed.

j.Would you be friends with your person if he was still alive? Why or Why not?

I would defiantly be friends with Alexander Hamilton if he were still alive. Alexander Hamilton is a very knowledgeable and smart person. He is very involved in politics and knows how to run a country and a state. Alexander Hamilton is also very brave; he accepted the request to be in a duel between him and Alexander Hamilton.

c.What is this person "famous" or "infamous" for?

I am very famous for the duel I participated in that was between Aaron Burr and me. He was very jealous for me once again becoming governor and president. Aaron burr was so jealous that he challenged me to a duel. We aimed and fired at each other, unfortunately I was hit and died a day later he survived the duel.

h.What does the person do for a living

I am the former secretary of the treasury. I am also the president. I became the governor of New York. I, once again, prevented Burr from winning by opposing his candidacy.

Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr Dueled to the Death

On the heights of Weehawken, New Jersey, we both fired our pistols at each other. Some people said that I purposely missed Burr. Burr's shot, however, fatally wounded me, leading to my death the following day. Aaron Burr escaped unharmed.

Hard to believe, but settling differences with a duel had been the custom before the Revolution. In 1804, however, dueling was no longer legal in the state of New York, where both men were political leaders. Burr was indicted for murder, but the charges were later dropped.

Fortunately, politicians today use debates and the press to settle their differences. Dueling and other violence have never been an intelligent way to solve a problem. In a duel, the loser lost more than just an argument; he lost his life. That is how I lost my life

I am Alexander Hamilton I was born into riches; both my parents owned a trading company. I was born on the West Indian island of Nevis, in 1755. I am a political icon and have been governor and mayor of New York.

d. How did he meet his death?
I was killed in a duel fought between Aaron Burr and me. Aaron and myself has always been competition to each other in politics, I have always beat him in political races. Aaron Burr was about to become the mayor of New York until I became the mayor of New York by deciding to become a candidate. Aaron was very upset so he challenged me to a duel. We both fired our pistols and aimed at each other. I died a day after I was shot. Aaron Burr survived.
